Bishop Okoye Spiritan Secondary School Grade 7 and 8 Students, made the Top 10 ranking in the just concluded Chandelle US Mathematical Olympiad
Six Students of Bishop Okoye Spiritan Secondary School Rivers State Nigeria have ranked in the top 10 Chandelle US Mathematical Olympiad (CUMO), an international contest comprising Nigerian, Ghanaian & Togo Schools. This is the second consecutive time that Bishop Okoye Spiritan Secondary School students have earned a top-ten spot in the competition. After the Level one contest, Dike Chibugom Laura a 7th Grade student earned a 3.4 GPA & took the first position; Bassey Beverly Enayi an 8th Grade student earned 3rd Place with a 3.4 GPA, and Okonkwo Chidumaga Michael, Rich-Madume Chioma C, and Orakwue Giovanni C. earned 3.0 GPA respectively.
The 2023 CUMO competition Grade 7 & 8 included 15 schools and 120 students.
Bishop Okoye Spiritan Secondary School also competed in the Spoken Word poetry category with outstanding effort.
“I am so proud of all Six students as their creative spirit and perseverance is a true testimony to their character and skill,” said the Vice Principal of Academics, Fr JohnPaul Edoziem. We thank their courage and the grace of God. They were in the middle of the first term exam, but I insisted that they combine the preparation of their first term exam with CUMO, “It was an honor to work with them and we look forward to Chandelle The Best Awards.
The Olympics of Academics challenges school students to apply academic tools and concepts to real-world problems in biology, engineering, finance, medicine, social science, etc. The contest inspires students to develop creative problem-solving skills, engage in productive teamwork and utilize effective communication, all of which are critical to a student’s future success in life.
Another aim of the competition is to gather bright students from different institutes and provide them with a platform where they can showcase their talent by participating and winning the Olympiad competition.

Let It Shine Literacy Olympiad
The International Literacy Olympiad is a writing competition open to ALL students from the 5th through 8th grades.
The purpose of the competition is to give students the opportunity to showcase their abilities, as well as instill pride and ownership of themselves.
AWARDS
Grade 5-6 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Positions will receive $1,000. 1st to 10th Position will receive tuition benefits for the First term academic session.
Grade 7-8 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Positions will receive $1,000. 1st to 10th Position will receive tuition benefits for the First term academic session.
